Jamaican dominoes terms

Most arguments at a dominoes table are about a word rather than a rule. These are the terms as they are used here.

Bone

A single domino tile. Twenty-eight of them make the double-six set.

Pose

To lay the opening bone of a hand. Double six poses the first hand of a game; after that the previous winner poses.

Knock

To rap the table because you cannot match either open end. It passes your turn, and it tells the table two numbers you do not hold.

Pass

The turn you give up when you knock. Passing with a playable bone is not allowed.

Love

Zero. A side on love has not scored in the current game.

Six love

Six games to nothing. The whitewash, and the result the whole game is named for.

Key bone

The single non-double bone that fits two different hard ends. Going out on it is worth two.

Derby

The raised-value hand played after a blocked hand ties between opponents. Worth two, then three if the tie repeats.

Game Bruk

A hand that cannot be settled cleanly. The hand is reset rather than awarded.

Sporting

The informal courtesy that lets the holder of double six open with a different bone at a friendly table.

Play Two

The hand played at exactly one all. The winner comes out of it on two, the loser back to nothing.

Play a game and take the south seat.
